Celebrating National Apprenticeship Week 2023

Its national apprenticeship week this week, and we thought we would take the opportunity to showcase our latest apprentice, Toby Kingston.

Toby joined us in September 2022 as an apprentice junior quantity surveyor, working four days a week in head office and with his mentors on site, and one day a week at The University of Westminster.

Apprentice schemes, no matter what the field, are always an amazing opportunity to learn and earn at the same time. By working with industry professionals and gaining essential skills on sites – any apprentice can expand their knowledge and understanding of their chosen field, enhancing the careers.

Toby had this to say about his experience of working with Sorrel; “I had always had an interest in working in this industry, and I wanted to be able to gain a professional qualification, as well as experience first hand knowledge of what the job really entails. Working for Sorrel has enabled me to better understand not just my area of the business, but also the practicalities of managing materials on site by the trades that need and use them. Working with my mentors at head office has been immensely useful, as they can help and guide me in the right direction to fully understand any situation presented in front of me. The fact that I am learning what I need for my career, whilst also earning a wage, means that I am building a foundation for future career development. I’m very grateful for the opportunity. I’ve already had the opportunity to work directly with some of our clients, and in very exciting projects across London – from restaurants, to offices, to even car parks!”

At Sorrel we really value our apprentices and are always looking to assist them in gaining new skills, new qualifications and having hands-on experience on site. Working with fully qualified and experiences people, they can expand and build their confidence in their fields.
