World Day for H&S at Work

As today mark World Day for Safety and Health at Work. We at Sorrel wanted to highlight how important health and safety is to us – it isn’t just a box-ticking exercise. Health and Safety is the core of how we operate every single day. As a construction, refurbishment and maintenance business, we recognise that the environments we work in can carry inherent risks. That’s why we’ve built a culture where safety, accountability and continuous improvement are embedded into everything we do.

We don’t wait for problems to arise — we actively work to prevent them. Our teams are trained to identify risks early, assess them thoroughly and implement practical control measures before work begins. Every project, regardless of size, is approached with the same level of diligence and care.

Routine site inspections, method statements and risk assessments are standard practice, ensuring that both our staff and our clients always operate in a safe and controlled environment. Health and safety is not static, and neither is our training. We invest in regular, structured training programmes to ensure our staff remain up to date with the latest regulations, best practices and site-specific requirements. From toolbox talks to formal certifications, our teams are continually developing their knowledge and awareness. This consistent focus helps us maintain high standards across all our projects and ensures that safety remains front of mind for everyone on site.

Our commitment to safety is led from the top. Director Adam English, who holds NEBOSH qualifications, brings expert-level understanding of health and safety management into the business. This ensures that our processes are not only compliant, but robust, practical and aligned with industry best practice.

Having this level of expertise in-house allows us to make informed decisions quickly and maintain a proactive stance on safety across all operations. Our responsibility doesn’t stop with our own teams. We also support our clients in maintaining safe working environments for their staff and visitors.

Whether it’s advising on safe working practices, assisting with maintenance-related safety requirements, or helping identify potential risks within a property, we provide practical, hands-on support tailored to each client’s needs. All of this is delivered in-house, ensuring consistency, quality and accountability.

We hold ourselves to the highest standards — and we welcome scrutiny. Sorrel is regularly audited by recognised industry bodies, ensuring that our health and safety practices meet and exceed required benchmarks. These external audits provide reassurance to our clients and partners that we are operating at an exemplary level and continually striving to improve.

Maintaining safe sites isn’t just about compliance — it’s about protecting people, building trust and delivering projects responsibly. At Sorrel, we take that responsibility seriously. Our combination of strong leadership, ongoing training, proactive planning and independent auditing ensures that we consistently deliver safe, efficient and high-quality work for both our staff and our clients.
